Markus Theinert, Conductor
Markus Theinert was born in Weingarten in 1964. He grew up in a very musical family and had his first piano and singing lessons at the age of seven. Later the contrabass, tuba, trombone, euphonium and organ were added. 19841984 Markus Theinert began to study the piano, tuba and composing in Berlin. Private studies with John Fletcher (London Symphony Orchestra) motivated him to focus on the tuba as his main instrument. Markus Theinert played as a temporary tuba player at the Berliner Philharmoniker (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), the Rundfunkorchester Berlin (Radio Orchestra Berlin) and the Deutsche Oper Berlin (German Opera Berlin). 19871987 he was solo tuba player at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra under Leonard Bernstein and Sergiu Celibidache. There he was also encouraged to conduct by Maestro Celibidache and invited to the master-class of the latter in Paris, Mainz and Munich. This nine-year period of intensive study with Celibidache essentially shaped the musical education of Theinert. 19901990 he became a member of the orchestra academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) and member of the Brandenburg Quintet Berlin. 1992-19971992-1997 he lead the Brandenburg Chamber Orchestra as the chief conducter. As a guest conductor, Theinert went to Japan (Toyama Orchestra Academy), Mexico (Orquestra Sinfonica di Mineria), Great Britain (JJB Leyland Brass Band), Italy (Lanciano Festival Orchestra) and the USA (Hartwick College Summer Music Festival). A peak of his young career was a concert in the Berlin Philharmony with the Beaux Arts Trio and the RIAS-Sinfonieorchester (RIAS Symphfonic Orchestra). Furthermore he worked as an assistant of Hans Werner Henze, Victor Libermann and Osmö Vanska. 19931993 visiting professor at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo. 19971997 Markus Theinert became chief conductor of the Bavarian police musical corps in Munich. Besides his occupation as a solo tuba player, conductor of symphonic orchestras, brass groups, brass bands and choirs Markus Theinert is much in demand as adjudicator at competitions and lecturer at international master classes.
