Intrada "Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott", Ray Farr
Intrada begins altogether in the style of tne introductory pieces of the Renaissance, with fanfares from three physically separated choirs of cornets. The chorale quotation which follows is introduced by a trombone quartet, but soon develops into a dramatic chorale variation in which Bach's own technique of contrapuntal accompanishment is clearly retained.
Fuge XVI, Joh. Seb. Bach
The young arranger Gary Westwood has transposed the Fuga XVI in G minor BWV 861 to F minor, but his economical use of the individual registers largely ensures that the authenticity and clarity of the original are not lost.
Mutations from Bach, Samuel Barber
Samuel Barber based his work on the subject Bach upon an old chorale. The freely recitative giving the solo horn an opportunity for narrative comment against the background of the muted cornets' cantus firmus.
